Indian Railways announced on Wednesday that its AI-powered system had banned 2.5 crore dubious user IDs for ticket buying in an effort to combat unauthorized automated bookings.

Additionally, on May 22, the enhanced platform achieved a historic milestone with the highest-ever per-minute booking of 31,814 tickets, demonstrating its scalability and resilience.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Railways, new user protocols have been implemented to further improve efficiency and justice.

“Users not authenticated via Aadhaar can book Opening ARP, Tatkal or Premium Tatkal tickets only after 3 days of registration, while Aadhaar-verified users can book tickets without delay,” it stated.

Measurable gains have resulted from these initiatives. While average daily ticket purchases grew by 11.85% during the same period, average daily user logins increased by 19.53% from 69.08 lakh in FY 2023–24 to 82.57 lakh in FY 2024–25.

OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, unveiled the second phase of its global “AI for Impact Accelerator Programme” in India on Tuesday. The announcement highlighted a year of assistance for mission-driven organizations that use AI to address pressing social issues.

World Champion D Gukesh overcame a losing position on Sunday to defeat Magnus Carlsen in Round 6 of the Norway Chess 2025 competition. Gukesh defeated the Norwegian grandmaster in a classical match for the first time. After Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the 19-year-old became the second Indian player in the tournament’s history to defeat Carlsen.

Gukesh achieved his first-ever victory in a classical chess match against the world No. 1 on Sunday at the Norway Chess 2025 event, defeating hometown idol Carlsen in the traditional style.

Using the white pieces, Carlsen maintained the upper hand for the most of the game by applying constant pressure. Gukesh, however, defended with surgical accuracy and poise beyond his years. The government has ordered all e-commerce businesses to perform self-audits in order to identify and eliminate dark patterns in accordance with consumer protection laws, in response to the growing concern over these patterns in digital commerce.

While presiding over a high-level stakeholder gathering here, Joshi declared, “Today’s consumers are alert, knowledgeable, and more conscious of their rights — they will not tolerate deceit.”

Key leaders from significant e-commerce corporations, industry groups, volunteer consumer organizations, and national law universities came together for a concentrated discussion on ending deceptive online activities, which was organized by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Joshi emphasized recent changes, pointing to a notable increase in dark pattern-related consumer complaints on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).

“Businesses shouldn’t wait for the CCPA (Central Consumer Protection Authority) to step in. Prior to issuing notifications, they ought to proactively identify and eliminate these dishonest behaviors. Building consumer trust is more important than merely adhering to regulations”, he said.

He added that the Department, working with IIT BHU, was able to create three potent consumer protection tools: the Jagriti App, Jago Grahak Jago App, and the Jagriti Dashboard, thanks in large part to the innovative concepts and technological solutions produced during the “Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023.”

“These tools are a testament to our resolve in combating deceptive design practices that mislead consumers online,” stated the minister.

In addition to outlining the Department’s multifaceted efforts to address this urgent issue, Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, gave an enlightening introduction to the matter.

She drew attention to the concerning increase in dark patterns, which are design cues employed on websites and applications to trick or pressure users into making undesirable decisions.

She pointed out that these tactics damage customer welfare and trust while undermining consumer autonomy and controlling purchasing behavior. She emphasized that protecting consumer rights and guaranteeing fair digital trade depend on addressing dark tendencies.
