Amid growing tensions between India and Pakistan over suspected missile strikes, the G7 countries called for an immediate de-escalation.
“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan,” the statement read.
“The stability of the region is seriously threatened by further military escalation. We have serious concerns about both sides’ civilian safety.
“We demand an immediate de-escalation and urge direct communication between the two nations in order to reach a peaceful conclusion. We are still keeping a careful eye on the situation and are in favor of a prompt and amicable diplomatic solution,” it continued.
