Honeywell Hometown Solutions India Foundation (HHSIF), the philanthropic arm of Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) in collaboration with Americares India Foundation, has successfully completed two projects aimed at enhancing primary healthcare centers (PHCs) and schools in rural India. With a combined investment of over 6 crores in FY 2023-24, HHSIF and Americares have upgraded 48 PHCs and 6 schools across Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu.

Recognizing the critical gaps in healthcare infrastructure and educational facilities in rural communities, HHSIF embarked on a strategic journey to address these challenges in the year 2021-22. Over the years an investment of close to 17 crores has been made to upgrade 104 PHC, which has impacted over 30 lakh rural lives. In past year alone, HHSIF has invested nearly 4.5 crore towards upgrading 48 PHCs across Sangli, Satara, Nashik, Dehradun, Bhiwani and Kaithal. Vital medical equipment, coupled with essential training to proficiently operate the equipment, has been provided alongside the refurbishment of health center buildings ensuring that the PHC’s are well equipped to deliver healthcare services of the highest quality. The donated equipment includes vital medical instruments and devices crucial for effective healthcare delivery in palliative, maternity, dental, ophthalmic, immunization, ENT services and enhancing the capacity of these centers to cater to the healthcare needs of the communities they serve.

“Post Covid, Honeywell India partnered with Americares India Foundation to enhance healthcare infrastructure.  In the last year the company also expanded its focus on boosting educational infrastructure to support communities with better access to healthcare and educational facilities.  Over last three years, the company has invested 14.56 crores across 3states to boost medical facilities for underprivileged communities. Our efforts this year have benefitted over 21 lakh people in these regions. Nearly 30 projects have been successfully completed in Maharashtra, 12 in Uttarakhand, 10 in Haryana and 2 in Tamil Nadu. Honeywell announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Green Solutions Group Corporation (TGS) on the Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen project, Vietnam’s first green hydrogen plant in the Mekong Delta.

Honeywell Battery Energy Storage System helps decrease costs and carbon emissions while providing grid stability from renewable power sources, enabling the production of green hydrogen at the Tra Vinh green hydrogen plant.

Honeywell will bring to the project its ready now technologies such as project automation design and management, and energy management for energy transition, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), to enable TGS to integrate renewable energy sources into the green hydrogen plant.

Witnessed by the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, the MoU signing took place in November 2023 at the COP28 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“Honeywell’s battery energy storage system will play a key enabling role in the Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen project,” said Ramanathan Valliyappan, Regional General Manager of Honeywell Process Solutions.  “It will extend renewable energy from TGS’s solar farms beyond sunlight time as well as extend wind power when the winds are calm. Honeywell’s BESS platform helps decrease costs and carbon emissions by providing grid stability from renewable power sources, thus enabling the production of green hydrogen at the Tra Vinh plant.”

In addition to BESS, Honeywell will provide extensive solutions and expertise covering the entire hydrogen value chain to help TGS operate safely, profitably, and meet its renewable energy production goals.

“Our collaboration marks a critical step toward the production of green hydrogen at the Tra Vinh plant,” said Huynh Thi Kim Quyen, Managing Director of TGS. “The Tra Vinh Green Hydrogen Project is a major landmark for our company and a significant milestone toward realizing our national goal of decarbonizing the energy sector with renewable energy solutions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.”

Vietnam pledged to become net zero by 2050. By some estimates, it is one of the top five countries likely to be most affected by climate change, with possible severe social and economic risks. The country has high solar and wind power potential, especially in the Mekong Delta region, where the Tra Vinh plant is located.

Honeywell is committed to achieving carbon neutrality in its operations and facilities by 2035. This commitment builds on decades-long history of innovation to help its customers meet their environmental and social goals. Mobile application commerce continues to rise rapidly. The geo-location integrity of the mobile end user and transaction data is critical. In many cases, Know-Your-Customer (KYC) policies, regulations like business licensing, advertising restrictions, consumer safety and privacy all rely on valid geographic data and restrictions in mobile apps. On top of that, mobile brands need a greater array of signals to detect fraud. They also need to ensure malicious users are not faking their mobile location to bypass geo restrictions or obtain access to offer inventory and services outside of an approved geography. Putting the quality of the user experience center stage, these same brands need geo compliance to validate user identities in mobile applications, including in P2P and social-based mobile applications.

Honeywell today announced that ENEOS, a leading energy company in Japan, will develop the world’s first commercial scale Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) project using Honeywell’s solution at multiple sites.

The LOHC solution enables the long-distance transportation of clean hydrogen and can help meet the growing requirements for hydrogen use across various industries by leveraging existing refining assets and infrastructure. The project supports Honeywell’s alignment of its portfolio to three compelling megatrends: automation, the future of aviation and energy transition.

“With more cost-effective long-distance transport, our Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier provides a method of more closely matching international supply and demand for hydrogen which enables hydrogen to play a critical role in the energy mix as we move toward lower-carbon economies,” said Ken West, president and CEO of Honeywell Energy and Sustainability Solutions. “By providing solutions to help overcome the challenges of hydrogen transportation, Honeywell is supporting ENEOS in transitioning to a hydrogen-powered future.”

This is one of multiple hydrogen transportation projects on which Honeywell and ENEOS are collaborating. In the Honeywell LOHC solution, hydrogen gas is combined chemically through the Honeywell Toluene Hydrogenation process into methylcyclohexane (MCH) – a convenient liquid carrier – compatible with existing infrastructure. The hydrogen at these sites will be exported – in the same way as petrochemical products – to ENEOS in Japan in the form of MCH. Once at its destination, the hydrogen will be recovered using the Honeywell MCH Dehydrogenation process and released for use, while the toluene can be sent back for additional cycles.

Hydrogen is expected to play a critical role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. At standard conditions, hydrogen is a flammable gas with low density and cannot be efficiently or easily transported. Current solutions available for transporting hydrogen include liquifying the hydrogen and using chemical carriers such as ammonia, each of which requires additional infrastructure to produce and transport hydrogen.
