The Women’s Premier League (WPL) was first held in 2023. The tournament took place in March, after the player auction. The Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals in the championship match to win the title, and the cricket community is now preparing for the 2024 WPL player auction before the year ends.

All eyes will be on the WPL 2024 auction proceedings and strategies of the five teams when the event takes place in Mumbai on Saturday, following the completion of the player retention and released lists in October of this year.

In all, 165 cricket players will be up for auction at the WPL 2024 player auction. Of the total 165 players, 104 are from India and 61 are foreign players (comprising 14 different countries), of which 15 are affiliated nations. There are 109 uncapped players and 56 capped players overall.

There are five teams and a maximum of thirty slots available, with nine spots designated for international players. In order to assemble the teams they want, the five teams participating in the WPL 2024 player auction will have a total purse value of INR 17.65 crore.

Six foreign players are among the maximum 18 players that each team may have in their respective squads.

The players that have been retained by the Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and UP Warriorz are 15, 8, 13, 11, and 13, respectively.

Gujarat Giants have the most money remaining in their purse (INR 5.95 crore), followed by UP Warriorz with INR 4 crore and Royal Challengers Bangalore with INR 3.35 crore. The purses of the Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are INR 2.1 crore and INR 2.25 crore, respectively.

The Gujarat Giants have ten spots available for players to fill in their respective squads, including three international players. Three of the seven spots that RCB is trying to fill are with foreign players. There are open player slots in Mumbai and UP, with four Indian players and one foreign player each. Three spots are available for Delhi, one of which is for an international player.

The highest reserve price is INR 50 lakh overall, and two players—Deandra Dottin of the West Indies and Kim Garth of Australia—have chosen to be placed in the top bracket. Four players—South Africa’s Shabnim Ismail, England’s Amy Jones, Australia’s Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham, and England wicketkeeper Amy Jones—have maintained the second-highest base price of INR 40 lakh.
