TATA WPL 2025: The third edition of the Women’s Premier League commenced
The third season of the Women’s Premier League begins on today, and the Gujarat Giants will make their home debut against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the brand-new BCA Stadium in Vadodara.
RCB, the defending champions, will face Gujarat Giants in the tournament opener on February 14 in Vadodara. The inaugural edition’s champions, the Mumbai Indians, will begin their campaign against the Delhi Capitals in Vadodara on February 15.
The 2018 edition of the women’s T20 League will take held in four cities: Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai.
As the five teams prepare for a new season of the WPL, which runs from February 14 to March 15, they do so against the backdrop of a domestic season in which batters have been expressive at the crease, resulting in more offensive strokeplay in matches.
It’s also helped that WPL franchises have started organizing off-season and pre-season camps for Indian players, which primarily focus on improving the players’ skill sets as well as their fitness and nutrition.
Vadodara will host six matches before the action changes to Bengaluru, where Smriti Mandhana’s RCB will play their first home game against the Mumbai Indians on February 21 at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium.
The caravan will then go to Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, which will host four WPL games in its maiden season. UPW, headed by Alyssa Healy, will play three home matches against GG, MI, and RCB on March 3, 6, and 8.
The final leg of the WPL 2025 will take place in Mumbai’s iconic Brabourne Stadium. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians will wrap up the league stage with back-to-back home games against GG and RCB on March 10 and 11.
Brabourne will also host the Eliminator between the second and third-placed teams on March 13. The title fight is set to take place on March 15.
Before the Women’s Premier League 2025 season, all five WPL teams have announced their captains.
So far, Indian internationals Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have won the WPL as captains of the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2023 and 2024.
