India’s female population has more AI-related talents than the US

New research found that Indian women acquire AI-related skills at a higher rate (1. 9) than women in the United States (1. 71), Canada (0. 97), and the United Kingdom (0. 90), as the use of artificial intelligence (AI) grows rapidly in India.
According to the “Stanford AI Index 2026,” Indian women’s AI skill penetration rate was 1. 9, which is an improvement over the 1. 61 found in the index from the prior year.
The United States accounted for the largest share of AI initiatives with at least 10 stars in 2025 (31.7%), even though this percentage has been steadily decreasing from almost 80% in 2011 as developers from other regions have increased their presence on the platform.
Since 2019, China’s portion has stabilized. The report claimed that India continues to be a growing contributor, accounting for 5. 2% of projects that have received at least 10 stars. Over time, there has been a change in the geographical spread of open-source AI projects that are more apparent.
Meanwhile, with 41% of employees indicating that they use AI nearly every day, India has established itself as a world leader in artificial intelligence adoption. According to the ADP Research report, about 80% of Indian workers utilize AI at least a few times each week, making it the highest level observed in any market surveyed.
Since only fifty percent of the laborers interviewed worldwide use AI numerous times every week, Indian use is substantially higher. In terms of daily AI usage, Vietnam (36%) and Nigeria (39%) were after India.
With 44% of women utilizing AI at work almost daily compared to 40% of men, women in India are using AI more often than men.
Nevertheless, the research also showed a widening gap between perceived productivity and AI adoption. Despite reporting full engagement, daily AI users were four times more likely to feel less productive.
The paper said that employees felt their contributions were more difficult to measure and assess as AI took control of routine chores.
