Bharat Taxi launches in Mumbai to improve city transportation

The Bharat Taxi driver onboarding program was officially launched in Mumbai on Friday by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, according to an official announcement. The action represents a major advance in enhancing urban mobility and drivers’ quality of life.
Hundreds of auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers, representatives of transport unions, and members of cooperative organizations took part in the program.
In order to fortify India’s developing mobility ecosystem, Goyal highlighted the significance of collaborative and technology-driven models.
According to him, Bharat Taxi gives drivers access to digital tools that can help increase transparency, income, and respect for their labor, as well as the chance to participate as partners.
According to the minister, projects like this one point to the future course of India’s urban transportation infrastructure.
The initiative, according to the Ministry of Cooperation, seeks to increase access to structured digital platforms that promote driver participation, increase transparency, and provide more earning potential.
The onboarding campaign is a component of broader initiatives to improve driver-first mobility systems in big cities.
The initiative aims to foster an inclusive and sustainable environment for commuters and drivers by streamlining the onboarding process, increasing operational efficiency, and providing more consistent access to ride demand.
Mumbai joins a growing list of cities, including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Lucknow, where organized mobility networks are expanding at a steady pace.
The strong backing from local driver unions in Mumbai has bolstered confidence in the platform’s expansion plans and its dedication to creating a solid driver ecosystem in the city, according to Vivek Pandey, COO of Bharat Taxi, who described Mumbai as a high-potential market.
The platform’s expansion is shown by recent operational statistics, which include around 5. 17 lakh drivers, more than 50 lakh customers onboarded, and about 10 lakh rides facilitated each month throughout several cities.
The ministry claims that the growth is in line with the vision of Amit Shah, Minister for Home and Cooperation, to see Bharat Taxi operating in every major city in India over the next three years, with Mumbai serving as a significant turning point in this plan for national expansion.
