Ahmedabad will host the first World Yogasana Sports Championship today

Gujarat’s Ahmedabad will host the inaugural World Yogasana Sports Championship beginning on Thursday.
The event, which is held at the EKA Arena, brings together 400 athletes from over 60 countries to compete in classic, creative, rhythmic pairs, and team Yogasana competitions.
The first global championship for Yogasana as a competitive sport, the five-day event (June 4–8) will draw participants from nations including the United States, Ghana, Kenya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.
On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on X that Yoga is becoming incredibly popular worldwide! The first World Yogasana Sports Championship 2026, a really unique competition, will begin tomorrow in Ahmedabad on June 4th.

The competition is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of Ayush, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Sports Authority of Gujarat, Gujarat Tourism, and the Gujarat Yogasana Sports Association. It is seen as a significant step toward making Yogasana an internationally recognized athletic discipline.
Hosts A 122-person group will represent India. For both men and women, competitors will compete in six age divisions: Sub-Junior (10 to 14 years), Junior (14 to 18 years), Senior (18 to 28 years), Senior A (28 to 35 years), Senior B (35 to 45 years), and Senior C (45 to 55 years).
The competition will include traditional group categories, artistic events, and individual events. The organisers will also implement an electronic scoring system at the global level for the first time in an effort to enhance transparency and consistency in judgement.
The championship will be supervised by 51 national and 32 international judges.
Udit Sheth, president of Yogasana Bharat, stated before the event that the championship would offer a significant platform for players and support the global spread of Yogasana.

Dr. Jaideep Arya, general secretary of World Yogasana, called the competition a turning point for the sport.
More than simply a competition, the World Yogasana Championship represents a crucial step in the development of Yogasana as a sport played around the world. He said that for the first time, sportsmen from more than 60 different nations will perform on a single platform to showcase the agility, discipline, and art that Yogasana stands for.
The tournament will start with an opening ceremony on Wednesday. From June 4 to 8, the event will be broadcast live on Doordarshan every day from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. and streamed on the broadcaster’s YouTube channel.
