On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at Rashtrapati Bhavan for the “Civil Investiture Ceremony-II,” where 69 people received Padma Awards.

“Attended the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II, where the Padma Awards were presented. The Padma awardees have made notable contributions to our society. The life journeys of those who were conferred the Padma are deeply motivating,” the Prime Minister wrote on X.

Earlier, 69 people who have made outstanding achievements in a variety of sectors, including art, literature, education, public affairs, medicine, social work, science, sports, and industry, were given Padma Awards by President Droupadi Murmu.

Along with other dignitaries, Home Minister Amit Shah and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the ceremony. The Padma Awards ceremony for 2025 entered its second phase with this event.

One of India’s highest civilian honors, the Padma Awards are given out in three different categories: Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan. On the eve of Republic Day this year, the government revealed 139 Padma winners.

Three Padma Vibhushan, nine Padma Bhushan, and fifty-seven Padma Shri recipients were among those honored in this phase. Thirteen posthumous recognitions, honoring heroes who made a lasting impact in their industries, gave the ceremony extra meaning.

The posthumous awarding of the Padma Vibhushan to the late Bhojpuri and folk singer Dr. Sharda Sinha, whose music struck a profound chord with the Indian heartland, was one of the event’s most poignant moments.

The Padma Vibhushan was also given to classical dancer Kumudini Lakhia (posthumous) and former Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar.

Among the Padma Bhushan recipients were renowned journalist and novelist A. Surya Prakash, actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna, and social activist Sadhvi Ritambhara, who was well-known for her involvement in the Ram Janmabhoomi campaign.

Legendary musician Pankaj Udhas, seasoned politician Manohar Joshi, and economist Bibek Debroy were among the posthumous Padma Bhushan awardees. renowned Malayalam author M.T. Vasudevan Nair and Japanese businessman Osamu Suzuki, who was instrumental in Suzuki’s collaboration with India.

The Padma Shri category received the most honors, with 57 people honored for their innovative and grassroots work throughout the nation.

Notably, 23 of the recipients are female, demonstrating the increasing acknowledgement of female excellence across a range of fields.

The philosophy of “nation first, people first” is reaffirmed during this year’s ceremony, where the recipients represent the diversity of Indian culture, science, and humanitarianism. After retiring from tennis last year after a decades-long career, tennis icon and Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal was honored over the weekend at the French Open.

At a farewell ceremony in Paris on Sunday, Rafael Nadal, who won 14 French Open titles over the years, beginning with his tournament debut in 2005 at the age of 19, was given a standing ovation at Roland-Garros’ renowned Court Philippe-Chatrier while wearing a dark suit and matching shirt.

On Sunday, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad’s seventh group of an all-party delegation left for France. The parliamentary representatives will travel to France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Denmark, and the European Union.

As part of its diplomatic outreach after Operation Sindoor, the Modi administration has dispatched seven multi-party delegations to tell countries about Pakistan’s ties to terrorism and India’s resolute stance against terrorism in all of its forms.

Randhir Jaiswal, an official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), wrote on X, “Together in the fight against terrorism. The seventh group of All Party delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad @rsprasad has departed for 6-country visit. The delegation will be visiting UK, France, Germany, EU, Italy and Denmark.”

Under the leadership of Ravi Shankar Prasad, the delegation consists of former diplomat Pankaj Saran, Congress MP Amar Singh, Shiv Sena (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi, and BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari, M J Akbar, Ghulam Ali Khatana, and Samik Bhattacharya.

While interacting with leaders in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, the European Union, Italy, and Denmark, the team hopes to inform its international allies on India’s response to the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22 and its larger war against cross-border terrorism.

Ravi Shankar Prasad emphasized earlier in the day that while India will take tough action against terrorism, it believes in peace and harmony. In reaction to the Pahalgam terror incident on April 22 by terrorists backed by Pakistan, which claimed 26 lives, Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 as a forceful military response. More than 100 terrorists connected to groups like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were killed as the Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. As part of the government’s outreach to the international community regarding the fight against terror and Operation Sindoor following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, an all-party parliamentary delegation headed by Supriya Sule, the leader of the Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar, arrived in Qatar late Saturday.

The delegation includes former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin, Telugu Desam Party leader Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Aam Aadmi Party leader Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V. Muraleedharan, and Sule, the NCP-SP’s working president. Additionally, it will visit Ethiopia, Egypt, and South Africa.

“Conveying India’s strong message against terrorism to the world! A warm welcome to the multi-party delegation led by @Supriya_sule to Qatar. Vipul, the Indian ambassador to Qatar, met Supriya Sule, Anand Sharma, Rajeev Pratap Rudy, and Anurag Thakur at the airport in Qatar.

“Taking India’s strong message against terrorism to the world! A warm welcome to the multi-party delegation led by @Supriya_sule to Qatar. Ambassador @vipulifs received the delegation. @MEAIndia,” it said in another post on X.

Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared the message. Qatar has a position as a mediator in regional disputes and is regarded as having influence in West Asia.

“The multi-party Indian team, headed by Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule, is arriving in Doha today for a two-day visit scheduled for May 24-26, 2025. Their trip to four countries—Qatar, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Egypt—begins with this stop. The delegation will engage with Qatari authorities in Doha, as well as representatives of the academic community and media. The visit is being held in light of the Pahalgam terrorist incident in India on April 22, Operation Sindoor, and the events that followed. The members of the visiting delegation include MPs from both Houses of Parliament, former Ministers and diplomats,” the Indian Embassy in Qatar said in a press statement.

“The leaderships of Qatar and India have maintained communication since the Pahalgam terrorist assault. On May 6, Prime Minister Modi spoke with H.H. Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the amir of the State of Qatar, over the phone about the events.

On May 7, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also called Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al-Thani. The Embassy stated in the statement that Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had expressed Qatar’s strong rejection and condemnation of the terrorist assault in Pahalgam in its statement on April 23.

In response to the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22, which claimed 26 lives, the military initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7.

Shashi Tharoor, who is heading a delegation of the Members of Parliament, arrived in Guyana on Sunday on the second leg of the mission to expound India’s anti-terrorism message and Operation Sindoor’s goals.

The all-party delegation includes MPs Shashi Tharoor (INC), Shambhavi (LJP – Ram Vilas), Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), GM Harish Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Murli Deora (Shiv Sena), and Tejasvi Surya (BJP), along with Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

“It is Guyana’s 59th Independence Day tomorrow (Monday), and we will be present at the midnight speech by the President (Irfaan Ali) tonight,” Tharoor said in an X post announcing his arrival.

The crew came here following a Saturday stop in New York, where they met with think tankers and academics and saw the 9/11 Memorial at the World Trade Center, which represents America’s fight against terrorism.

According to the Indian High Commission in Georgetown, Guyana’s capital, “The delegation will be interacting with the Guyanese leadership and key interlocutors from media, Indian community and diaspora, and friends of India in Guyana.” The lawmakers will highlight “our strong message of unity and brotherhood as well as India’s collective resolve to fight against the scourge of terrorism,” it stated.

After visiting Panama, Colombia, and Brazil, the squad will return to the United States on June 3 for meetings in Washington.

Following the slaughter of 26 civilians at Pahalgam by The Resistance Front, an associate of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba, the delegation led by Tharoor is one of seven groups of MPs traveling to 33 countries to represent India.

Nine terrorist facilities in Pakistan and the parts of Kashmir that it controls were hit by India.

The conflict then escalated as a result of Pakistan’s attack on India, which targeted civilian buildings such as medical facilities and houses of worship, including gurudwaras, temples, and convents.

JMM MP Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmad emphasized the initiative’s bipartisan nature. “We have a purpose for coming here. The delegation is multi-party and all-party. The administration called all-party meetings headed by the home and defense ministers in response to the latest attack in Pahalgam. Action was urged by all Indians, regardless of political affiliation. That united stand includes this outreach,” he stated.

As part of a high-level diplomatic outreach effort against terrorism, an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation headed by BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda landed in Bahrain.

Beginning with a multi-nation journey that includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria, the visit aims to fortify India’s regional ties and underscore the nation’s resolute opposition to cross-border terrorism.

The delegation also went to Bab Al Bahrain, a famous landmark in Manama, later that day.

During their visit to Bahrain, the Indian lawmakers also engaged with the local diaspora and communicated India’s steadfast and united stance against terrorism.

Taking to X, BJP MP Panda said, “Our Indian diaspora has succeeded globally, and this makes us all very proud. Today, along with my esteemed colleagues from the all-party delegation, we engaged with the Indian community in Bahrain and conveyed India’s unified and unwavering stance against terrorism”

Asaduddin Owaisi, an AIMIM MP and member of the delegation led by Jay Panda, gave an overview of the tour’s itinerary and spoke to the larger regional background.

“We will be going to Bahrain. Then we will be going to Kuwait, then Saudi Arabia and lastly Algeria. Now, it’s evident that the recent incident in Pahalgam was a tragic one, and for many years, as you and I both know, our neighbouring country, Pakistan, has been running terrorist camps on its own soil, providing them with shelter and support. These terrorists then cross over into our country to carry out attacks. We will be visiting these four countries to present these concerns and realities before them,” Owaisi said.

Beginning with a multi-nation journey that includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Algeria, the visit aims to fortify India’s regional ties and underscore the nation’s resolute opposition to cross-border terrorism.

In order to demonstrate India’s unified and uncompromising position against cross-border terrorism supported by Pakistan, the Indian delegation will now travel to Kuwait (May 26–27).

In order to introduce “Lakadbaggha: The Prologue,” a comic book version of the 2023 vigilante action movie “Lakadbaggha,” which stars Anshuman Jha, Bollywood actor and animal lover John Abraham has been recruited on board.

On May 26, the comic book will be released in Mumbai, where Ridhi Dogra and the other members of the franchise’s special cast will be present. Neeraj Chopra, a two-time Olympic medallist from India, finished second in the javelin throw at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial event on Friday in Chorzów, Poland. Neeraj was unable to duplicate his season-best performance from the Doha Diamond League, where he had previously won a silver medal, despite winning his third medal of the year.

Chopra who is regarded as India’s finest athlete struggled to find his rhythm in the rainy Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet in Chorzów, but he managed to keep up his winning streak for the season.
