OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, unveiled the second phase of its global “AI for Impact Accelerator Programme” in India on Tuesday. The announcement highlighted a year of assistance for mission-driven organizations that use AI to address pressing social issues.

Eleven NGOs will be awarded additional API credits as part of this program, increasing the total amount of technical grants awarded to $150,000. As a prepaid payment option, OpenAI API credits allow users to buy credits in advance and use them as needed, eliminating the need for monthly credit card billing.

This initiative is now a part of the larger “OpenAI Academy,” which seeks to increase AI’s usability, accessibility, and foundation in real-world problem-solving.

The business claims that over the course of the last year, Indian organizations that are funded by the program have created and implemented AI solutions in vital fields including healthcare, education, agriculture, disability inclusion, and gender equity, clearly influencing underprivileged areas.

The initiative is run in collaboration with Turn.io, Tech4Dev, and The Agency Fund. It offers early access to OpenAI’s tools, collaborative learning within a cohort, and practical technical assistance.

It also demonstrates OpenAI’s larger dedication to making sure AI helps everyone, particularly those living in underdeveloped areas.

In order to assist these organizations in creating extensive solutions, OpenAI also held a workshop in India to demonstrate the capabilities of its most recent AI models.

The project is in line with the “India AI Mission,” which seeks to build a robust ecosystem, democratize access to AI, and provide technological solutions that are specifically suited to India’s particular social and economic requirements.

Organizations using AI to address significant problems are part of the India cohort.

The Indian cohort was commended by Pragya Misra, Policy and Partnerships Lead at OpenAI India, for their deliberate and significant use of AI.

According to her, the organizations embody the principles of the India AI Mission and demonstrate how cutting-edge technology can be applied creatively and empathetically to tackle challenging issues.

With other firms anticipated to join the program later this year, OpenAI intends to further expand this effort in India.

As it expands, OpenAI is moving beyond merely offering access to creating tangible, real-world impact—supporting useful, scalable, and human-centered AI solutions.

World Champion D Gukesh overcame a losing position on Sunday to defeat Magnus Carlsen in Round 6 of the Norway Chess 2025 competition. Gukesh defeated the Norwegian grandmaster in a classical match for the first time. After Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, the 19-year-old became the second Indian player in the tournament’s history to defeat Carlsen.

Gukesh achieved his first-ever victory in a classical chess match against the world No. 1 on Sunday at the Norway Chess 2025 event, defeating hometown idol Carlsen in the traditional style.

Using the white pieces, Carlsen maintained the upper hand for the most of the game by applying constant pressure. Gukesh, however, defended with surgical accuracy and poise beyond his years. Carlsen made a last-minute mistake that opened the game as the stress mounted under the event’s increment-based time management, and Gukesh quickly took advantage of it.

“There was not much I could do. I just had to make the most of it. I was making moves that were tricky for him, and luckily he got into a time scramble. One thing I’ve learned from this tournament is that time scrambles can get out of control”, Gukesh said after the match.

In trademark humility, he added: “Ninety-nine out of a hundred times, I would have lost. It’s a lucky day.”

Carlsen crushed the chessboard and quickly left the arena, clearly upset. Gukesh, on the other hand, quietly celebrated a victory that would define his career with his coach, Grzegorz Gajewski.

The two had faced off in the first round of the competition, with Carlsen winning by a narrow margin thanks to his signature endgame accuracy. But this time, Gukesh was the one who remained composed under pressure.

Norway Chess, which features top male and female players in a unique six-player double round-robin format, is considered by many to be one of the top chess events on the calendar. The 2025 edition will take place in Stavanger from May 26 to June 6.

The government has ordered all e-commerce businesses to perform self-audits in order to identify and eliminate dark patterns in accordance with consumer protection laws, in response to the growing concern over these patterns in digital commerce.

Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, emphasized the significance of ethical business practices and said that the recommendations on dark patterns were the outcome of extensive discussions with a range of stakeholders, including prominent e-commerce firms and trade associations.

The minister urged all businesses to completely adhere to the rules and incorporate them into their internal governance and consumer protection procedures now that a mutual agreement has been reached.

While presiding over a high-level stakeholder gathering here, Joshi declared, “Today’s consumers are alert, knowledgeable, and more conscious of their rights — they will not tolerate deceit.”

Key leaders from significant e-commerce corporations, industry groups, volunteer consumer organizations, and national law universities came together for a concentrated discussion on ending deceptive online activities, which was organized by the Department of Consumer Affairs.

Joshi emphasized recent changes, pointing to a notable increase in dark pattern-related consumer complaints on the National Consumer Helpline (NCH).

“Businesses shouldn’t wait for the CCPA (Central Consumer Protection Authority) to step in. Prior to issuing notifications, they ought to proactively identify and eliminate these dishonest behaviors. Building consumer trust is more important than merely adhering to regulations”, he said.

He added that the Department, working with IIT BHU, was able to create three potent consumer protection tools: the Jagriti App, Jago Grahak Jago App, and the Jagriti Dashboard, thanks in large part to the innovative concepts and technological solutions produced during the “Dark Patterns Buster Hackathon 2023.”

“These tools are a testament to our resolve in combating deceptive design practices that mislead consumers online,” stated the minister.

In addition to outlining the Department’s multifaceted efforts to address this urgent issue, Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, gave an enlightening introduction to the matter.

She drew attention to the concerning increase in dark patterns, which are design cues employed on websites and applications to trick or pressure users into making undesirable decisions.

She pointed out that these tactics damage customer welfare and trust while undermining consumer autonomy and controlling purchasing behavior. She emphasized that protecting consumer rights and guaranteeing fair digital trade depend on addressing dark tendencies.

Projects totaling more than Rs 62,000 crore were examined at the PRAGATI conference, which was led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and involved the Centre and state governments. PRAGATI is an ICT-based multi-modal platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation.

With effect from May 29, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran will step down as Director and Chairman of Tata Chemicals, the company told stock exchanges on Wednesday.

With effect from May 30, S Padmanabhan, an existing Director, was named the new Chairman after the Board accepted his resignation. Modan Saha has also been named an Additional Director, with effect from May 28.

“I am writing to formally inform you of my decision to step down from my position as a director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tata Chemicals Limited w.e.f. May 29, 2025,” Chandrasekaran wrote in his letter to the Board.

“After careful evaluation my current and future commitments, I have decided to step down from the Board. It has been a privilege to chair the Tata Chemicals board and I sincerely appreciate the support and collaboration during my tenure,” he further added.

During a time of strategic change and realignment within the Tata Group, Chandrasekaran served as Chairman of Tata Chemicals.

“The company has taken on record the request received from Mr. N Chandrasekaran via his letter dated May 28, 2025 conveying his intention to step down from the position of Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company with effect from May 29, 2025,” the company stated in a stock exchange filing.

With effect from May 28, Saha has been appointed as an Additional Director (Non-Executive, Non-Independent) in accordance with the Nomination and Remuneration Committee’s recommendations.

At Tata Sons, Saha is now in charge of a few strategic initiatives. He formerly served as Tata Digital’s founding director and CEO of financial services.

He served as the CEO of the Tata Strategic Management Group, which assists the Tata Group Chairman’s Office and Tata Group enterprises with strategy and transformation projects, before joining Tata Digital.

Saha had a variety of positions in the financial services industry with organizations such as ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, and UBS Singapore.
