Engineers’ Day 2025: Honoring Sir M. Visvesvaraya

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who is considered to be among India’s greatest engineers, National Engineers’ Day is observed annually on September 15.
His pioneering contributions revolutionised India’s infrastructure through innovative designs, practical solutions, and visionary planning that blended technical expertise with social progress.
The legacy of Visvesvaraya extends much beyond engineering. He was a writer, statesman, and economist who also held the positions of President of the All-India Manufacturers’ Organization and Diwan of Mysore.
He was given the Bharat Ratna in 1955 and continues to be a source of inspiration for both engineers and decision-makers.
From modest beginnings to enormous accomplishments, his life’s work has established him as one of the most significant figures in modern Indian history and continues to serve as a standard for creativity, problem-solving, and nation-building.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on the anniversary of his birth, which is celebrated nationally as Engineers’ Day, and praised his remarkable accomplishments that helped to define India’s engineering scene.
“Today, on Engineers’ Day, I pay homage to Sir M. Visvesvaraya, whose brilliance left an indelible mark on India’s engineering landscape,” the Prime Minister wrote in a post on X. I want to express my warmest greetings to all engineers who continue to spur innovation and take on difficult problems in a variety of industries thanks to their inventiveness and tenacity. Our engineers will keep being vital to the group’s endeavors to create a Viksit Bharat.
In addition, Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted engineers and acknowledged their role in advancing technology.

India is rapidly reaching the highest level of technological advancement thanks to your vision, inventiveness, and commitment. “I pay tribute to the great engineer who led us down this path of transformation on the Jayanti of Bharat Ratna M. Visvesvaraya Ji,” HM Shah wrote in a post on X.
