U23 Asian Championships 2026: Kudos to Indian wrestlers for a job well done!

The Indian men’s freestyle wrestling squad took home the Team Championship Trophy and a magnificent first-place finish at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, where they were crowned the undisputed champions.

To finish first, India outperformed Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in the freestyle rankings.

Nine medals, four gold, three silver, and two bronze, were earned by the championship-winning freestyle team as they completed their season. Kumar Mohit (65kg) and Chandermohan (79kg) continued the momentum set by Akshay T Dhere (57kg) and Vicky (97kg) with their magnificent gold medals, which also placed them at the top of the podium.

Deepak Berwal (74kg) and Mor Sachin (82kg) contributed bronze medals, while Deepak Rathi (61kg), Punit Kumar (92kg), and Lacky (125kg) won hard-fought silver medals to help the team make history.

Throughout the competition, India’s female wrestlers were equally dominant, performing exceptionally well to win ten medals. Muskan (53kg), Tapasya (57kg), Bhagyashree (62kg), Pulkit (67kg), Mansi (68kg), and Kajal (76kg) all demonstrated their technical superiority in their respective title bouts, helping the women’s contingent win an impressive six gold medals.

Neha (59 kg) and Sweety (50 kg) battled valiantly for silver medals, while Amruta (72 kg) and Ahilya (55 kg) concluded their campaigns on the podium with bronze.

By taking home eight awards during the competition, the Indian grapplers established a solid base in the Greco-Roman division. Sumit spearheaded the effort with a spectacular gold in the 63kg division, with Suraj (60kg) and Sagar Singh (67kg) contributing silver medals.

With well-deserved bronze medals, Neeraj Patel (55kg), Sachin (77kg), Rohit Bura (87kg), Rohit (97kg), and Hardeep (130kg) contributed to the amazing haul.

PM Modi congratulated the Indian wrestlers for their exceptional showing at the 2026 U23 Asian Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, where the Men’s Freestyle and Women’s teams took home the overall titles.

In a thrilling continental campaign, the entire Indian delegation amassed an astonishing total of 27 medals, including nine bronze, seven silver, and eleven gold, in the Women’s Wrestling, Greco-Roman, and Freestyle divisions.

India recorded its highest-ever total medal haul at the U23 Asian Championships in history thanks to the Men’s Freestyle Wrestling team, who won 9 medals, including 4 golds. Six Gold medals were among the ten won by the women’s wrestling team.

Additionally, with eight medals, the Greco-Roman team achieved its best overall medal tally. Our Wrestlers deserve a lot of praise. PM Modi wrote in his post that he sends his best wishes for the upcoming projects.
